Stop dreaming.

I just did a few calculations, and it's depressing to learn that 3.8 is officially out of my reach even before the EoYs start. Granted, I was never going to take 2 H3s, but it'd have been nice to have it as an option...

Speaking of subject combinations, I've pretty much decided on my subjects next year. =) Physics, Chemistry (somewhat reluctantly...), Maths & Econs (completely unsurprisingly). Yknow, the subject combo which 75% of RI is taking...

On a different note, if any of you reading this blog (renyue aside) play Scrabble, let me know. ISC's getting boring; there're only so many games you can play with random strangers who use anagrammers and swear they don't every day...and Haiwei doesn't dare to play against me, so my options are rather limited. =(

Why does Blogger not allow you to passwordprotect specific posts?

There's so much I want to say. In private.

By the way, does anyone like the poem on the opening page?

It's one of my favourites.

Finished The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss a few days ago.

It's one of the few (very few) well-written fantasy novels that I've had the pleasure of reading, amidst all the other generic, cliched and ultimately boring books in the same genre (David Gemmell, and to a lesser extent, David Eddings). It's like spending every recess at the chicken rice stall, and then discovering the mixed rice stall. Oh the variety!

Fine, bad analogy. But nevertheless it's a good book.

I have a quiz to do! Meme. Whatever.

1. Next to each number, write only the name of the person who fits.
2. Answer one question with one name.
3. Don't tell the questions to anyone who isn't doing the meme.

Now I can write your name here, and yall poor readers will know not the reason thy name hast been mentioned.
Cool no? (Unless, of course, you already know the questions.)

1. Hannah
2. Xuewen
3. What if I don't want to? ...
4. Brent
5. Christine
6. Justin. Because the question can be intepreted another way...
7. ---
8. ---
9. ---
10. Cassandra
11. Ch3ster
12. ---
13. Biquan. Only because of What's On This Week
14. Shiyin
15. Ernest Wong, only because he's made for it.
16. Nicholas
17. Yuchen
18. ---
19. Haiwei
20. Nic Chee
21. Shukiat (if I intepret this correctly...)
22. Jaryl (likewise, if I interpret this correctly...)
23. No one really fits. Mr. Kwa?
24. Cheriel? (I already did.)
25. Issac Chay? I have no idea. David will probably comment on this.
26. I refuse to answer this question. Not in public, anyway...
27. ---
28. Bryan
29. See #26
30. Don't kill me if I wrote your name under something you think you really don't fall under.

Ya quite fail I left so many questions blank =(
My social circle is a limited one.

Okay so Epic Friday is over. Easily the most tiring day of the holidays (although admittedly it's not hard to claim that title, given that I spent most of the holidays slacking...), but also the most fun. Of course, with Epic Friday being over, so the holidays will be soon...

Woke up at 6am for the 20km trek. Now, no one likes to wake up at and see night. Ideally, I'd wake up and see the glorious morning sunlight streaming through the window, preferably with birds chirping somewhere and the sky being a perfect shade of pale blue, after which, presumably, I'd jump out of bed and say something like "What a beautiful day!", a la the shows you see on Kids Central in the morning.

Anyway.

6am, and the night is oppressively dark and gloomy.

But the trek wasn't as bad as I expected. Time flies really fast when you have a music player. And the scenery was quite cool, really, although, being me, I didn't take photos. Which means that you'll have to go experience the walk for yourself. =)

I can't remember the name, but it's that new doublehelixish wave bridge spanning Mt. (hill) Faber and...the other end.

We ended the trek at Macs at 11.10 AM. Life is sad indeed. (If you don't get it, Macs stops serving breakfast at 11.00AM, and as we all know, Macs breakfast is da imba shizz.)

Rushed off to East Coast immediately after that, but as we all know, Singapore's public transport system is a very efficient one. Until you try to get from Point A to Point B, and realise that although there are buses covering every other part of our tiny island (Consider 156, which brings you all the way from Sengkang to Clementi, via Bishan, and even through a tiny maze of houses (so it basically acts as both a pan-island and a feeder bus)), there is no bus at all linking your location to your target destination.

Case in point: My house in Hougang to RI. RI is linked to Clementi, Sengkang, Punggol, Marine Parade and so on, but for some arcane reason it isn't linked to Hougang. But I digress.

To cut a long story short, I got from West Coast Park to East Coast Park on our efficient Public Transport System. It took me 90 mins.

APCG outing was enjoyable; thanks to all who bothered to organize it and stuff. A pity not all 50 of us were there, but I guess it was never possible that all 50 would turn up to begin with. Beach volleyball (or at least an attempt to play beach volleyball --quote Joou, "So what game are you guys attempting to play?") was the order of the day, which was quite amusing in itself considering we had Biquan as our movable net.

And we pissed one couple off because they were probably trying to get some private time alone in their tent, but the volleyball kept on flying into their tent and disturbing whatever they were trying to do in broad daylight in a tent in a public park that they couldn't do by themselves somewhere more private.

Anyway.

We tried to cycle to Changi Beach from East Coast, but failed miserably, although we did get pretty far. Refer to previous post. Geoffery has ridiculous stamina, Amanda is hyper (we played her version of Truth or Dare on the way back--think ToD with slightly less choices), and everyone else is either 1) slow or 2) smart enough to take their time cycling back.

Grabbed dinner at BK with everyone, then tried to take 55 home.

I get on the bus.
Uncle: "Where you going?"
Me: "Hougang."
Uncle: "Other side of the road la." -jerks thumb

I cross to the other side of the road, and wait for a ridiculously long time before the same 55 trundles back to me.

Uncle: "You again!"
Me: "Um...does this bus go to Hougang?"

Managed to grab all of 10mins' worth of rest at home + a badly needed bath and then rushed off to Clarence's house. There isn't anything particularly interesting that happened.

I slept at 6.30am, go figure.

I present to you a very crude but nevertheless efficient image of 2.5hrs' worth of our hard work on Friday:

Okay la it was smart to turn around, if we hadn't we'd probably have ended up at Changi beach being damn tired and refusing to move while those poor people at the bicycle stand in East Coast begin to wonder where we are.

Longer post coming up once I get some sleep.

My posts will be sporadic from now on.

Just finished Popco, which is easily one of the hardest-to-define books I've ever read. I guess the best way to describe it would be quirky. The writing style is slightly offbeat, so it's something new, and the plot itself is...different, but nevertheless it's still an engaging read. Although not what you would probably expect.

I just realised that Popco was written by the same author as Bright Young Things (Scarlett Thomas), which explains why I found the writing style so familiar.

Don't read this if you're dislike

-Disturbing concepts
-Very bad endings (one of the weak flaws of her writing)
-Books without heroes you can like (actually, I like the protagonists, I just can't ever imagine liking them in real life.)
-Random graphic sex scenes

Just so you know...

Some Singaporeans have a belief that people from RI are lifeless muggers who spend Fridays (and most of the other days of the week, actually) studying.

People from RI have a belief that aforementioned Singaporeans are idiots.
